Hallway and Mudroom Lighting Makeover with Alicia Armstrong

Sometimes, transforming a space in your home takes time. That was the case with the hallway in Alicia Armstrong‘s house. When she and her family first moved in to their home, the hallway had gray walls and builder-grade carpet. An accent wall and hardwood floors were the first changes made to bring the hallway closer to Alicia’s vision. Later, she found herself inspired by images of hallways with faux wood beams, shiplaps and beautiful lighting. To help her make that vision a reality, she reached out to us and we provided her with Trade Winds Hammond ceiling lights in natural brass.

Hammond is a great and very popular look because it has retro vibes with a modern touch. The shade of white opal glass wears a slender metal band accent for extra intrigue. Of course, the brass finish is so chic, too! And because Hammond hangs down slightly from the ceiling, it gives you a hanging pendant style look without the risk of tall people accidentally bumping their heads on the lights while walking down the hall.

Alicia used conversion kits, which can be found at hardware stores, to change her recessed can lights over so she could install the Hammonds. This is a great way to bring a custom touch to even the most builder-grade house and can be a doable weekend DIY project. (But it’s always okay to seek out assistance from an electrician if you don’t feel comfortable handling the task.)

First, Alicia thought about using four Hammonds in her hallway, one at the landing and three down the rest of the hall. But sometimes plans change. The space was going to look too crowded with all four lights in the same area, so she took one downstairs to her mudroom and swapped out a pendant light to get super stylish mudroom lighting!

Without further ado, let’s check out how things look now. These photos were taken during the holiday season, which means you can see how beautiful brass and white look with greenery! Bonus!
